  64.   I've been trying to get Autogem to operate for me.
  65.  
  66.   I've run the BOOTMAKER.PRG and told it which program to load and
  67. the screen text which appears tells me it was successful in creating
  68. the bootable file. I then copied the AUTOBOOT.PRG into my Auto folder
  69. and rebooted my ST (TOS Ver.1.2). The screen text which appears tells me
  70. that AUTOGEM is auto starting my specified program and then I am promptly
  71. returned to the GEM desktop? My program, which is in the root directory,
  72. does not load.
  73.  
  74.   I have only one other program in my auto folder (LGSELECT) which loads
  75. before Autogem.
  76.  
  77.   Anyone have any suggestions? (other than the obvious)

  97. You don't have to use the line numbers in BASIC when you edit your

  101. a text editor and then compile them into plain-jane Applesoft.  You

  104. use a program like Program Writer which is basically a word-processor
  105. for BASIC programs.  Either way, it's simple, easy and powerful.

  107. MD-Basic also comes with a decompiler so you can take plain BASIC
  108. programs and decompile them into MD-Basic source with labels and
  109. word-variables etc, etc.

  164. Dear all (especially Stuart),
  165.                             I've completed DM1 on the Atari and am
  166. repeating it on the Amiga. This lets you hear monsters and track them
  167. directionally whereas the Atari doesn't. Because of this I found a
  168. room I didn't on the Atari exploration. I heard the sound of a flying
  169. snake/wasp on level 5 but couldn't see it so I went to where it was
  170. loudest and switched on X-ray vision and lo and behold a new room
  171. not shown on my `mjs' map complete with snake and a chest. despite
  172. seeing in I couldnt get in so how....??
  173.  
  174. We are on level 5 which has the `treasure store' place with four doors
  175. in it. OK ?
  176.  
  177. Right, coming from the long corridor with four alternate water fountains
  178. take the corridro leading to the treasure store and go up there, turn
  179. right and then left, past another fountain, take one step further, look
  180. left switch on x-ray vision and there we are.
  181.  
  182. No doubt I am the last person in the world to have found this room but
  183. how do i get in ? and matched the level 4 map and I cant see a way down
  184. from above and from below from level 6 come to that so help please.
  185.  
  186. PS practising on level 4 and casting potions even though i dont
  187. need to had given me experts all round more or less and i havent even
  188. started level 9. This is to get mega characters for DM2: Chaos Strikes
  189. Back.

  237. Does anybody know who this dedicated user is.  Regent Base can still be found
  238. (my local dealer has a copy), but is it still being actively distributed?

  240. I upgraded to version 1.1 a long time ago.  At that time Regent Software was
  241. starting to hype up Regent Base II.  RBII was supposed to add a lot of features
  242. like full SQL compatibility.  I didn't order it at the time, because I didn't
  243. have a need.  If it is still available, I might consider picking it up.

  248. the compilation of RB applications into .prg form.  This would probably help
  249. with the speed problem.  Then again, I could be mistaken about the whole thing.

  251. compiler (if it exists) and can distribute it.

  301. What about OPUS? Version 2.2 (or is it 2.1 ?) is availabale at
  302. atari.archive.umich.edu in diretory atari/appications. It is very much usable
  303. (full GEM WIMP support) with excellent charting facility. If you register with
  304. the author (D.Harrison) he will send you V2.3 which supports full Lotus 123
  305. file compability & it is by comparison extremely cheap.

  328.      If Atari is listening, I'd like to suggest that for the next
  329. version of TOS that they get rid of the "8.3" file name format
  330. restriction and move to "free form 12 character" names.  This should
  331. maintain sufficient compatibility with MS-DOS disks because people
  332. who want to maintain this compatibility will simply use file names
  333. with this restriction, but it should allow those of us who are
  334. more Unix (and OS-9) oriented to bridge over on the application
  335. level more easily.  Even Unix and OS-9 software that looks for
  336. final extension generally look for the last dot character, so that's
  337. not a serious problem, and those which work on prefixes will finally
  338. become practical.

  362. At atari.archive you can get Sozobon C or even better I
  363. think GNU C. Both are PD or Shareware, but some PD-game
  364. sources are yes fine to compile with GNU C. Both have
  365. assembler, both have a 'make', both are shell versions,
  366. both have a -O (optimize) option. But GNU C has an ANSI C
  367. option.

  414. Is there a good terminal program that supports
  415. Xmodem and Kermit and has good VT100, VT320, or
  416. VT420 terminal emulation?  If you are aware of
  417. such an animal please send me E-mail as I do not
  418. read this news much at all.

  463. I am in the market for a hard drive and just got a catalog from tech-
  464. specialities in Houston Tx and was wondering if anyone has had any experience
  465. with them.  I'm not really interested in buying a complete system from them,
  466. but am interested in buying a host adaptor and they are the only ones i've
  467. seen recently that are advertising them.  Also, I know this has been asked
  468. before, but does anyone have any recommendations on which host adaptor to get?
  469. I'm looking at the ICD, but mainly becuase i had good luck with them when i had
  470. my 8-bit.  All responses are welcome

  486. I have a 520ST with a 1 mg upgrade + an 30 meg hard drive.  I want to find a
  487. televideo emulator.  I want to write code on a Xenix system.  I don't want to
  488. tamper with the termcap since the company we bought the system from will not
  489. support the software if we mess around with it.  Does an emulator exist for
  490. the ST?

  516. Many parts of the Turbo C system were written by a company named
  517. "SoftDesign" in Munich. Their address can be found in some external
  518. programs and the assembler.

  520. BTW: Does anyone have experimented with the redirection vectors in the
  521. MAS.TTP program? At the beginning of the program you find a "patch area"
  522. where the integrated TC version writes down some vectors to input/output
  523. functions for window i/o and access to loaded files etc. The result is that
  524. the same MAS.TTP program is able to output both on a standard TOS screen

  580. You are, unfortunately, quite correct.  I did speak to a representative
  581. that basically knew 2 things.
